What is Naviance?

Naviance's "Family Connection" is a web based program for academic planning, college and career research.  This system is now available to seventh to twelfth grade students in the Simi Valley Unified School District. Naviance helps students and families connect what students do in the classroom to their life goals, including finding colleges and careers based on their personal skills and areas of interests. Naviance provides a single location for school and district administrators to engage students and families, improve college and career planning and measure student outcomes. We encourage parents, guardians and family members to explore the wealth of information contained in this incredible resource.

What is My10YearPlan?

My10YearPlan.com is a component of the Career & College Seminar class' curriculum. You may be thinking, "My child can barely see past Saturday night, let alone what life will look like in 10 years!" Not to worry. Using the Career Choices Curriculum, your child will be exploring a step-by-step decision-making process that will help them articulate the answers to three questions: Who am I? What do I want? How do I get it?

Through this process, students will  envision a future that includes:

  • Graduation from high school
  • Matriculation and graduation from post-secondary education or training
  • Transition into the workforce with the training and skills necessary for economic self-sufficiency

What is the difference between Naviance and My10YearPlan?

Naviance is an online program which includes career interest planning, scholarship and school information, and a management tool for college applications. My10YearPlan.com is a component of the C&C course as a companion to the Get Focused Stay Focused curriculum. My10YearPlan pairs a teacher with students for a step-by-step process for planning for the future.

In the next year, secondary school teachers in the Simi Valley Unified School district will be blending these two programs to provide our students with the best options in planning for their future.
